When Karpov Lost in 12 Moves

ChessOpeningTacticsOver the board
Even World Champions Lose Games This Fast!

Think back to a horrible mistake in chess. Whether it was blundering a tragic mate in 1 or simply hanging a piece, making these mistakes seem horrible. Yet, somehow, one of the greatest players ever, Anatoly Karpov, lost a game in 12 moves. No, that was not a typo. It may seem crazy, but in this game, Karpov misses a simple fork of two pieces. The game itself, up to that point, was a sharp Queen's Indian Defense game. Yet, somehow, Karpov missed a, for his level, obvious tactical trick. If you ever feel down about losing an upsetting miniature or just having a bad game in general, come back to this game!

Christiansen vs Karpov 1-0

Up to Karpov's 11th move, the game looked like a tricky, sharp battle. Both players seem to have chances in their plans. Karpov Is trying to play d5, to destroy White's hopes of a play on the queenside. White, meanwhile, can play on the queenside OR even the kingside. The game itself seems like a tricky fight for both sides... until Karpov made a grave mistake.

A stunning fork against such a player! Karpov resigns here, as the fork is going to lead to a piece up advantage.

Conclusion

I think we all have experienced something like this before. This game shows us that even the world champions of the game are still mortal. Let me know down in the comments about your personal experiences with losing/winning in such a quick manner. Also, let me know if there is anything you want to see me talk about that is chess related.
