5. School Support
In India, schooling is compulsory. At the same time, serious chess training also demands a huge amount of time.
Professional chess players need frequent leave for tournaments, training camps, and travel.
Because of this, support from schools becomes extremely important.
Nowadays, most parents prefer private schools.
Private schools already involve significant expenses.
Professional chess also requires significant financial investment.
Managing both together becomes very difficult for many families.
Another challenge is attendance.
Most schools conduct many academic and extracurricular activities.
Since parents are paying high fees, schools expect students to participate regularly.
Because of this, many schools hesitate to grant frequent leave for chess tournaments.
A supportive school can make a huge difference in a player's career.
Speaking from my own experience, I studied in six different schools from Class 1 to Class 12, even though most of them were government schools.
Almost every school had the same concern.
"Your studies will be affected because of chess."
Fortunately, I managed both academics and chess.
It wasn't easy, but it was possible.
With proper planning, discipline, and support from parents and schools, students can balance both education and competitive chess.
Schools should understand that sports are also a form of education.
Likewise, players should also understand that education should never be completely ignored while pursuing chess.
Both should go hand in hand whenever possible.
