Making good moves

ChessTacticsStrategy
How do you determine whether you should do one move and not the other? Read on to see!

Here is a simple guide on how to make good moves in any position.

How to make good moves in the Opening:

In the opening, you need to consider these things before you make your moves:

1. Am I familiar with the ideas of the move I am playing?

2. Do I have experience playing this opening?(I recommend for you to play openings you have played before in rated games, as this increases your chances.)

3. Is my understanding of my opening deep enough to make the right moves without hesitation? Do I know the theory?

4. Are my moves logical - do they make sense?

How to make good moves in the middlegame:

In the middlegame, you need to consider these things before you make your moves:

1. Is my opponent threatening something? If so, how should I respond?

2. How can I seize the initiative? How can I gain a tempo on my opponent?

3. Is my move threatening something?(In the middlegame, it should. This point links to number 2.)

How to make good moves in the endgame:

In the endgame, you need to consider these things before you make your moves:

1. Does this move seem logical?

2. Does your move/pattern follow a common endgame idea/principle?(For example, Zugzwang, Passed Pawns, King Activation, et cetera.)

3. And, like the middlegame, is your opponent threatening something? Have your recognized the threat and dealt with it?
