About me

I'm Yiğit Emin Gezer, a Candidate Master, professional chess player and coach from Turkey.

I currently work as a Chess & Mind Games Teacher at Bil Koleji while studying Computer Engineering. Outside of chess and education, I also manage digital and web operations for one of Turkey’s leading medical tourism companies, Medicina Turkey, which serves international patients seeking treatment in Turkey.

My background in competitive chess, teaching, technology and international business has shaped the way I approach coaching. I prefer structured and personalized training rather than using the same method for every student, with a clear focus on long-term improvement and practical tournament performance.

Playing experience

I am a FIDE Candidate Master with a 2200+ FIDE rating and extensive competitive experience in classical, rapid and blitz chess.

I actively compete in tournaments and team competitions, and I have also reached over 2800 in Lichess bullet. My experience as an active player helps me understand not only chess theory, but also the practical challenges players face during real tournament games — time pressure, preparation, decision-making and handling critical positions.

I continue to compete and work toward higher FIDE titles while using my own tournament experience to improve the training I provide to my students.

Teaching experience

I have been coaching chess for around 8 years, working with students of different ages and playing levels — from young children taking their first steps in chess to ambitious tournament players.

I currently work as a Chess & Mind Games Teacher at Bil Koleji, where I also have experience teaching younger age groups in a school environment.

Over the years, I have worked with beginners, developing players and competitive students, adapting my teaching style to each student's age, personality and goals. With younger students, I focus on building strong thinking habits, concentration and enjoyment of the game, while more advanced players receive structured training focused on calculation, openings, game analysis and tournament performance.

My approach is always individual: every student receives a training plan based on their own strengths, weaknesses and objectives.

Other experiences

Outside of chess, I have a strong background in technology, education and competitive sports.

I study Computer Engineering and have experience with software, web development and digital projects. I also manage digital and web operations at Medicina Turkey, a medical tourism company working with international patients.

Sports have always been an important part of my life. I played basketball competitively for several years, which taught me a lot about discipline, teamwork, preparation and performing under pressure. I’m also very interested in combat sports and martial arts, especially the strategic and psychological side of fighting — reading an opponent, timing, staying composed under pressure and knowing when to be aggressive.

Working in different fields — chess, education, technology, business and sports — has helped me develop a practical and structured approach to teaching. I enjoy understanding how people learn differently and finding the most effective way to help each student improve.

Best skills

My strongest areas are personalized training, opening preparation, calculation and practical tournament play.

As a coach, one of my biggest strengths is identifying what a student actually needs instead of following the same program with everyone. I build individual training plans, prepare opening repertoires, select model games and exercises, and give students a clear structure for what to study between lessons.

I am especially comfortable working with young and ambitious players. I focus on developing good thinking habits, calculation, concentration and decision-making, while keeping the training practical and motivating.

In chess, my strongest areas include dynamic positions, attacking play, calculation, opening preparation and understanding practical decisions under tournament conditions.

My goal is not only to help students play better

Teaching methodology

My teaching methodology is based on personalization, structure and practical improvement.

I usually start by analyzing the student's games to understand their strengths, weaknesses, thinking habits and recurring mistakes. Based on this, I create an individual training plan instead of using the same material for every student.

Lessons can include calculation, tactical training, positional understanding, endgames, opening preparation and detailed game analysis. I also prepare personalized Lichess studies, model games, exercises and homework so the student always knows what to work on between lessons.

For competitive players, I pay special attention to practical decision-making, time management, concentration and tournament preparation. With younger students, I also focus on building good thinking habits and keeping the training motivating and enjoyable.

I regularly review the student's progress and adjust the program when necessary. My goal is not only to explain chess, but to create a complete training system that helps the student improve independently over time.
