About me

I am FIDE Master Hadzimustafic Samir (FM, 2334 FIDE), 57 years old, an experienced chess coach based in Torremolinos, Spain. Chess is more than a game to me—it is a journey of strategy, patience, and resilience, and I am here to guide you along that path.

With over two decades of international experience and fluency in English, Serbo-Croatian, Czech, and Russian, I connect easily with students from all over the world.

Playing experience

I earned my FIDE Master title (2334 FIDE) with a standout performance at the Pula Open, where—as an unrated player—I scored a series of strong results against titled opponents to claim the top unrated prize and achieve my master norm.

Throughout my chess career, I have consistently performed at a high level:

Perfect score on board 1: Scored a flawless 10/10 on the top board in the Bosnian Youth Team Championships.

Multiple tournament winner: Regular prize-winner in local and regional opens across Europe.

Lifelong competitor: I continue to play actively, maintain my rating, and stay deeply connected to modern chess theory.

Teaching experience

I have coached players at every level—from national champions to absolute beginners:

Olympiad Coach: Guided WIM Lejla Smajlović (second board of the Bosnian Olympic Team) in her preparation for the 2000 Olympiad.

National Champion Coach: Currently coaching Bosnia's U12 National Champion, Mejrem Džafić (1460 FIDE) ratings.fide.com/profile/14436442 , Luuk Wierenga (1953 FIDE) ratings.fide.com/profile/1094874 , who qualified for the Dutch U16 Championship and Rohan Walia Magadi U10 Irish prodigy currently rated 1536 FIDE ELO ratings.fide.com/profile/2536455 and many other unrated students ) @southwell , @Raba , @doomslothx , @MadDearMagma , @lwierenga

International School Programs: Developed and delivered chess curricula in schools across Tajikistan, Azerbaijan, and Kenya.

I welcome students from complete beginners up to ~2200 FIDE.

Other experiences

I believe great coaching is about more than just chess—it's about understanding people.

Global Perspective: Having lived and worked across Europe, Central Asia, and Africa, I have taught students from dozens of nationalities and cultures. This has made me incredibly patient and adaptable.

Languages: I teach fluently in English, Serbo-Croatian, Czech, and Russian—so students can always learn in the language they're most comfortable with.

Father & Mentor: As a father of three boys, I know how to connect with young learners, keep them engaged, and build their confidence.

Resilience & Strategy: My own chess journey taught me that losses are just lessons. I pass this mindset on to every student.
