About me

Dynamic chess, calculation & practical decision-making for ambitious players.

Hi! I'm Jan Mikes, an International Master from the Czech Republic with over 8 years of coaching experience.

I work particularly well with ambitious club and tournament players (roughly 1600–2200 FIDE) who want to calculate more confidently, understand dynamic positions, and make better decisions in critical moments. I also work with stronger players on specific aspects of their game and tournament preparation.

Teaching methodology

I usually start by reviewing 5-10 of your recent games and discussing your goals. Together, we identify the areas worth working on and decide how to approach your training.

Depending on your needs, lessons can focus on game analysis, dynamic play, calculation, positional play, endgames, opening preparation, or tournament preparation.

After each lesson, you'll receive a PGN file with notes and exercises for further study.
