Yakuboev - Esipenko: white gives up the bishop's pair to gain a pawn with 11 Bxd5, but has to regret it dearly.
This is a textbook example of the bishop's pair compensating a pawn.

That was a really interesting game! I think Yakuboev’s play was also influenced by the fact that he knew he had to take risks and create an imbalanced position, which made the game even more exciting to watch.
All great picks that are very hard to sort and I bet you had trouble sorting the games from 1 to 10. I must say for me the best part is the absolutely visible contrast between the 2 Levon games. Where I find Aronian-Erigaisi a perfect pick, between these complicated dynamic battles and mindblowing maneuveres I find the game most human-like where the amateurs like me can relate. Looking forward for your next post!!
I really liked Zemlyanski - Bluebaum. I still wonder though, is there a scenario where such a strong gm messes up the Queen engame? Looked efortless at first, but the decisions didn ́t appear easy for me.
I really like the focus on clear key takeaways for each game! – it makes the post very practical for training, not just a list of nice games. And the selection includes interesting games with positions worth attention.
Great article! I really enjoyed the selection of games, very fun to go through!
A pity that this World Championship qualification event does not focus on "serious games". At 32 players left, 13 of the 16 matches finished 1-1, and at 16 players left, 7 of the 8 matches. This reflects the reality of the very high level of professional play at the classical time limit currently and can not be seen as unforeseen to FIDE. Nevertheless they have decided to bypass even two slow rapid games, instead heading for the popular entertainment offered by near-blitz rapid, with a bidding Armageddon not at all unlikely. Yet they still found time for the athletes to indulge in rest days.
Wow, the visual is great, keep it up bro.
