A Line in the Sicilian Defense that I Created and Why it Failed
I created a line in the Maroczy Bind of the Sicilian Defense that was designed to give both sides a comfortable position but the computer rather finds aggressive and beautiful tactics with White.Introduction
As most players know, the Sicilian Defense is one of the most popular but complex openings at intermediate, advanced, and master level chess. The story that I will talk about today focuses on a certain line I invented on a random Tuesday that I genuinely thought would work for both sides. After going through a bunch of moves, I realized that both sides could have a comfortable position. However, when I reviewed my line with the engine, it completely disagreed and wanted to use all the aggressiveness and tactical opportunities at once, rather than my failed positional strategy.
The position I created was my own variation of the Maroczy Bind of the Sicilian Defense. It has never been played at master level according to the Lichess database because of these aggressive futures that the computer offers.
